If you’re reading this, you’re a subscriber to the site. Well done.
I’m toying with the idea of using subscriber-only content to share some of the background to the ideas used in the main story, which you might find interesting. I won’t be ‘giving away’ the plot, or posting any spoilers, but it might give you some interesting strands to pull on, if you’re so inclined. I probably also won’t send email notifications about these kinds of posts, so I’m not spamming your inbox to death.
Here’s an example: the General Magic is based on a ‘real’ device named Orbo, by an Irish company called Steorn. It was marketed to investors, and they raised millions, but it was never proven to work and the company disappeared. The name ‘General Magic’ came from my 13-year-old son, who was telling me one of his stories (he’s a writer, too), in which different races had different types of magic. One particular species just had ‘General Magic’ which I thought was a wonderful turn of phrase. So I nicked it, thanks Marlowe.
Anyway, if this is something you’d like to see more of please comment below.
